<<< o >>>Photo Friday: Self-Portrait 41 comments + add yours

As Mike Golding notes, photographers hate to be photographed, and I’m no exception. I must have taken several hundred self-portraits this week – and I’ve hated all of them. So, on the basis that today is the last day I can submit something to this week’s Photo Friday challenge, I gave up trying to come up with something ‘arty’ and took a picture of my bum instead ;-)

This week’s challenge was suggested by playapixie, and I was quite saddened to read the commentary on her own entry. In short, she had intended to post a naked shot of herself but, for very obvious reasons, decided against it. So I guess that I’m saddened, not by her decision, but because we live in the sort of world where such decisions need to be made.

On a side note: I’m the guest photoblogger at No Traces today. Bob Smith has taken a trip to Europe and has asked various people to post to his site in his absence – Milo, Emily, Jon, Ian, me, Jim, mprints, Tracey, and Heather. If you’re interested, you can see my entry here.

nice starfish! ha! oh the possibilities...

but seriously. i do think that is one of the most interesting and original self-portraits i've seen in the last week. definitely one of my noteworthies.

comment by renee at 04:28 PM (GMT) on 22 April, 2004

nice starfish;) very original indeed!

comment by gwen at 04:41 PM (GMT) on 22 April, 2004

Oh. My. God. I'm "cracking" up over here. Nice thing to see before I've had my coffee ;)

(Great shot, too. It looks like a magazine "spread" for I have no idea what.)

comment by montewski at 05:18 PM (GMT) on 22 April, 2004

no comments. ;) i love your photos.

comment by tom at 07:26 PM (GMT) on 22 April, 2004

nice arse. i'm glad you didn't decide to go with a reflection self-portrait - i knew you'd come up with something interesting for this!

comment by Zero at 08:32 PM (GMT) on 22 April, 2004

It's a nice shot. One of the more creative ass-shots I've seen. But(t) it made me think... Taking a shot of my own ass isn't something I would have ever even considered. I guess I'm still stuck inside the box in that regard. It's nice to see others are more evolved. ;)

comment by june at 09:11 PM (GMT) on 22 April, 2004

i'm wondering, what photo will you take, if the next competition will be 'picture of your face' ;)

but(t) ;) still: great photos. respect.

comment by tiki at 09:17 PM (GMT) on 22 April, 2004

first time here.. and you've sure made an impression! lol. kudos for such an imaginative.. and gutsy (in my little mind) thing to do. nice.. you can count on my coming back for more!

comment by Clicks at 11:21 PM (GMT) on 22 April, 2004

hmm, I was little "behind" in seeing this. Very unique... easy on the eyes ;d

comment by jane at 12:13 AM (GMT) on 23 April, 2004

What a fun picture...didn't notice your arse till I saw the thumbnail on the comments page....more interested in the starfish to be honest ;-) Made me think a lot about self portraits though...I hate having my photo taken so much and would probably rather show my arse than my face.... which reminds me of an acid commment I made to my ex husband years ago. He told me he wouldn't be seeing the children as he 'had a match'. I said 'yeah, jabba the hut's arse and your face!!!!' He meant a fishing match apparently.....

Great work on putting a new twist on the "self portrait".

comment by djn1 at 04:33 PM (GMT) on 23 April, 2004

Lol - I really didn't expect that this shot would generate quite so much interest ... thanks :-)

comment by Zero at 09:10 PM (GMT) on 23 April, 2004

Sure you did, Liar... :D

comment by Renée at 09:16 PM (GMT) on 23 April, 2004

Lets get rid of the starfish and the water drops! :)

comment by djn1 at 09:18 PM (GMT) on 23 April, 2004

Nope, didn't, honest ;-) Well, ... not this much ;-)

By the way - your comment was the 1000th - which is nice :-)))

comment by myla at 04:55 AM (GMT) on 24 April, 2004

Well then. We were both going along the same lines (with the water) but you were far more daring than I. :) I just have one Q tho. . . ought not your lovely wife get the photo credit?

comment by djn1 at 08:12 AM (GMT) on 24 April, 2004

myla: no, my lovely tripod could get a mention, but the lovely wife had nothing to do with this one ;-) That said, I am planning a 'hers' version of this shot - watch this space :-)

comment by jane at 01:25 PM (GMT) on 24 April, 2004

Why do I get the feeling you have started something here?......

comment by Steve at 04:59 PM (GMT) on 27 April, 2004

Are you some sort of contortionist? I actually meant to post a comment on the pic of the yellow doors with bicycles punched out of them. Are they fancy bike sheds or something?

comment by Tiago at 05:02 PM (GMT) on 27 April, 2004

Totally noteworthable! A forever famous bum shot. ;-)

Ive been looking through all of your shots and i have to say, your work is outstanding.

However, i am not too impressed that you made me look at your bum in that way :)
