Ooohhh... this one is actually better than Batman!! I love the old and grumpy look of him and the smoke capturing the light! Or at least I think that’s what it is…

comment by Sysagent at 07:03 PM (GMT) on 25 April, 2006

Great portrait shot!

Amazing amount of detail and the processing on the image is "bob on".

Reminds me of my stag do in Amsterdam when all my mates (15 of them) arrived in a bar to meet me all dressed as Elvis, as they reckoned I looked like him, I have some pictures someplace of this event ;-)

comment by danielle at 07:13 PM (GMT) on 25 April, 2006

This is an amazing shot! Definitely one of my favorites. You captured that smoke perfectly.

comment by Iain at 07:20 PM (GMT) on 25 April, 2006

WOW WEEE this is very very excellent stuff. Amazing. I guess this is why you do a shot a day. Some days are bad. Others are good. Others are very very very good. Ace one.

comment by zebrilhas at 07:40 PM (GMT) on 25 April, 2006

Wow great capture, though with too much detaill in beard. It keeps my eye out of all picture.

comment by thukai at 07:40 PM (GMT) on 25 April, 2006

Amazing amount of detail on Elvis, but I don't know about the smoke. Maybe the photo would have been even better if it was "tuned down" a bit?

comment by michael at 07:58 PM (GMT) on 25 April, 2006

I agree that this shot is amazing. I think it is one of your best. I love how you almost have to go searching through the smoke to find all of the detail that is present here. I really like how you have worked the color of the photo as well.

comment by Paul at 08:04 PM (GMT) on 25 April, 2006

I like it..but it's very Draganesque, I don't know if you'll agree with that though!

Hi: Long time reader, first time poster. This shot drove me out of my lurking corner. I love it. Everything about it.

verry nice!

comment by cj at 08:29 PM (GMT) on 25 April, 2006

Holy smoke, er, batman.

Was this just an average everyday holiday maker type encounter, or did you know Elvis was in town?

Fun. Like it.

a very cool man.
like this shot!

comment by Sharla at 09:17 PM (GMT) on 25 April, 2006

HE'S ALIVE! I knew it was all a conspiracy to let him have quite retirement! There is nothing I can point at and say, "That's not him."

Fantastic light, detail, and subject. I think the swirling smoke is the coup de grace.

comment by Jamey at 09:45 PM (GMT) on 25 April, 2006

Nice one. Was the flash off-camera or just normal, straight flash? Really like the greenish tint and the understated lighting.

The only thing I can criticise is your timing because, for the first time ever, I've taken enough people shots recently to be able to post a portrait every day this week. But now, looking at my efforts, I suddenly don't feel like it anymore after seeing this. Ah well, onwards and upwards.

comment by kris at 09:51 PM (GMT) on 25 April, 2006

that's sick!

comment by Mark [londonrubbish] at 10:50 PM (GMT) on 25 April, 2006

Dave, you make a great Elvis! Who took the shot?

(Please don't dress up as Salma Hayek)

comment by Steve LLamb at 10:58 PM (GMT) on 25 April, 2006

Ew, what a huge slimeball. Love it.

comment by micki at 11:53 PM (GMT) on 25 April, 2006

I guess he's not lookin' to bad for his age, he might want to consider giving up the pipe smoking, though. Could hurt his singing voice. This is a really cool shot, although I think the king has seen better days.

Much better than the batman one IMHO
(Batman you know I love you)

I love the processing... great colours and very dramatic with the smoke and all...

That's just scary.

comment by Robert at 02:13 AM (GMT) on 26 April, 2006

It's the lips.

The detail and funky texture on the lips is amazing.

comment by Joseph Yarrow at 02:30 AM (GMT) on 26 April, 2006

This has to be one of my favorites, ever. I think the choice of crop was sensible, and the tones give it a real "las vegasy" feel to it. (curves?)
Did you have the guts to tell him that he looks nothing like Elvis?
Infact, are you even sure he was supposed to be Elvis??

comment by navin harish at 02:51 AM (GMT) on 26 April, 2006

awesome, great colours. Is this what happened to himafter he was abducted by aliens?

comment by Jessyel Ty Gonzalez at 06:53 AM (GMT) on 26 April, 2006

This is freakin' awesome, David. What sharpening technique did you use for this?

comment by Louise at 07:29 AM (GMT) on 26 April, 2006

Incredible... And they made us believe Elvis was dead... :)

comment by SteveO at 09:07 AM (GMT) on 26 April, 2006

Hehe, looks like elvis in the later stages of his life :-)

Great shot, the smoke really adds to it a lot.

comment by bruno at 10:10 AM (GMT) on 26 April, 2006

kind of funny shot. elvis is still alive :) and the best thing is that he is kind of grosssse :)

comment by mooch at 10:17 AM (GMT) on 26 April, 2006

I like this, you have captured something quirky and amusing here. I like the effect the smoke has to soften the image somewhat.

Excellent stuff.

comment by tif at 07:05 PM (GMT) on 26 April, 2006

Love it. The smoke is a bit heavy but I guess it makes it kind of feel dreamy, which I like.

comment by djn1 at 08:34 PM (GMT) on 26 April, 2006

Thanks everyone, I was pleased with this one too.

comment by The Gorilla at 12:28 AM (GMT) on 27 April, 2006
