I was going to post my London shots sequentially – Friday night stuff, Saturday trip, Saturday night stuff – but John has just put a shot of this guy so I thought I would too. As for who he is: other that that he's lived in the East End all his life, and that he was more than happy to be photographed, I can't really tell you. What I can say though is that he didn't seem at all out of place. In any other city or town in the UK I suspect that his style of dress and his age might have seemed somewhat incongrous; but wandering along Brick Lane, on a busy Saturday lunchtime, he seemed like exactly the sort of person you might expect to meet.
On a sidenote: normally, when John and I photograph the same person, he gets the self-assured, almost cocky portrait, and I end up with something more tame or self-reflective. This time though I think, perhaps, that we got things the other way round.
