One of the things that made the Venice Carnival such a pleasure to shoot was the fact that most of the people in costumes are delighted to be photographed. So, unlike most street photography, where people passing by either ignore you or treat you with suspicion, the vast majority of 'costumed' people in Venice would stop, pose, and allow you to shoot them for as long as you liked.
This woman, on the other hand, was clearly more of a tourist than a model and when I first pointed my camera at her she frowned, and I thought she was just going to walk past me - annoyed that I was intruding on her day. In a split-second though, she changed her mind. She stopped, stepped back towards the shutters, and smiled for the minute or so I was photographing her.
So, whoever you are, thank you for taking the time to join in the fun and let me photograph you, it was much appreciated.
